Assessment of Strength Reduction Factor on Concrete Moment Frames According to the New Venezuelan Seismic Code

Nonlinear static analysis is a validated tool for the seismic evaluation of existing and new structures, specifically reinforced concrete buildings. In order to assess performance frames designed according Venezuelan code, configurations low-, medium-, high-rise buildings are subjected 20 different load patterns considering nonlinear behavior FEMA P695. A total 140 frame models were analyzed using modal response spectrum pushover analysis. The parameters considered analyzing reduction factor (R), overstrength (RΩ), ductility (Rµ). results showed controlled by ductile failure mechanisms in low-rise unlike combined with columns plastic hinge models. Reduction values between 4 14 obtained. addition, curves affected patterns; therefore, it was necessary identify representative patterns, refusing rest patterns. statistical adjustment performed log-normal distribution. strength specified code higher than obtained 95% confidence levels distribution assumed Finally, more R = 4.
